Bear PAWS began in 2022 when members and staff at Westminster Presbyterian Church noticed Austin Middle School students loitering in the park while waiting for transportation. The leadership felt that this was an opportunity for the students to come for one hour a week instead of being out in the weather and often making poor behavioral choices.
The first meeting was on February 22nd with twelve students in attendance. Enrollment and attendance have consistently increased with seventy-four enrolled in May of this year and an average attendance of 4o.
Almost all the students that attend Bear PAWS are considered at-risk economically, academically, socially, or all three. Many of them face food insecurity in their homes.

To share hope of the gospel of Christ with Austin Middle School students and their families through food, fun and friendship.
Vision Statement
That students who participate in Bear PAWS during their years at Austin Middle School will be prepared to enter high school as Christ followers, committed to doing their best to be socially and academically responsible while exhibiting leadership and decision-making skills.
